Magical Macrame with Mikey

Saturday August 5th and Sunday August 6th

THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST.
THIS WORKSHOP IS NOW CLOSED.

Join us at Squam HQ for a day of making macrame
wall hangings with artist Michael Gabrielle.

Macrame is an ancient technique of creating beautiful geometric and organic shapes with nothing more than string and knots. This art form lends itself to freeform expression and Michael is setting the bar high with how he has pushed the edges of what you can create.

His signature style blends strength with fragility.  There is something rather magical in how he can take simple rope and transform it into spectacular beauty. Best of all? Michael loves to teach and share his passion for this super fun way of bringing beauty into your home. As a self-taught macrame artist, Michael has developed his own brand of tips, tricks and as well as a unique approach that demystifies the complexity without sacrificing the exquisite results. After a day with him, you will be be looking at the string, yarn, thread and rope around you in a whole new way and, no doubt, ready to start creating pieces that reflect your personal style.

Another element of this super mojo day is that we will have EM FALCONBRIDGE with us! Em will be infusing some oil magic into the day and you can expect all sorts of creativity and fun woven into our time together as we will be making a nature mandala for inspiration, to get grounded and to clarify our intentions.

Mostly? This offering is all about enjoying a day
of ease, play and making in the heart of Providence.

BASICS and FOUNDATION

An introduction to the fundamentals and the structure of macrame. This class is ideally suited to someone who has never taken macrame or, for someone who has dabbled but wants to get deeply grounded in the elements of creating form. Using a piece of branch or driftwood as our base, we will be creating one-of-a kind wall hangings. Naturally, all the skills and technique you learn can be applied to all sorts of future projects when you get home.

Do I have to bring any materials?

All materials will be provided for a kit fee. However, if you are a maker who has lots of bits and bobs– thread, ribbon, yarn, beads– or even elements from nature– feathers, twigs etc– you are so welcome to bring them so that you can weave them in to your own personal piece.

Can I bring a friend/mom/daughter, etc?

Of course! Provided there is room enough in the class– you can both register so that you get to share the experience and, keep practicing what you learned when you get home. However, please note that most people come on their own so don’t worry if you are showing up not knowing anybody– that is going to be the case for most of us!

I have food sensitivities and am concerned about the lunch.

We understand completely and are happy to work with you directly on that so that your food needs are met in full. Once you have registered, we will reach out to you to go over all that.
