“This retreat is so wonderful, so nourishing, and so magical!
The small group allows an introvert like me to sink in deeply, have time to play, time to develop lasting friendships as well as plenty of time to wander and contemplate. The small sharing circles of women’s wisdom and authenticity are so powerful.
I love all the Squam gatherings I’ve been to, but Into the Mystic is truly special
and I hope you continue to have it.” Anjanette Bunce

It is with no small amount of excitement that we are thrilled to announce there will be another Into the Mystic gathering. Even more providential, we will be beginning on the Beltane AND under a full moon in the midst of a most incredible natural setting. Oh me oh my, does this bode well . . .
This year we will be at the sumptuous Landmark Trust estate in southwestern Vermont. It is no exaggeration to say this region is incredibly lovely in early May, especially if you are lucky enough to sprawl on an expansive campus with meadows and mountain views in all directions as we will be doing. This area is celebrated for vintage finds, wonderful antique shops and a renowned apple orchard, Scott Farm where we will be gathering for classes and meals.
Fun fact: Nearly 600 acres large and 200+ years in production,
Scott Farm was a key location for the filming of the Academy Award-winning
movie The Cider House Rules, based on the John Irving novel of the same name.
So yes, if cider doughnuts are your thing— you’ve come to the right place.

If you are not familiar with Into the Mystic, this offering is slightly different than our annual events on Squam lake as it is always with a smaller group. Though each one is unique, what defines an Into the Mystic gathering is an exceptional location of natural beauty with a focus on nurturing our spirits through:
LIGHT * EASE * LAUGHTER * CREATIVE PLAY

Speaking of creative play, we are thrilled to share that Meg McElwee and Elizabeth Duke will be your guides for a deep immersion into hand stitching and stash busting which, by its very nature, lends itself to endless and inventive ways of repurposing our favorite (and possibly sentimental) fabric pieces—nothing is too small to be saved.
Our gathering spot is designed for a peaceful getaway where rest and restoration have always been prioritized. This is the perfect spot to find pause from the busy demands of daily life and a melt into the magic that results when we focus on creative play and connection— both to the world around us and, to the world within.
Get ready for a deep dive into creative play and an immersion into sacred sunrises and starry skies and, most likely, some super sweet wildlife may also be on view.

Although this gathering will be much smaller than our events at the lake, we will have the entire campus to ourselves which a very sweet indulgence indeed as that means we can spread out, breathe deeply and take advantage of the environment around us
Our catered meals will be supplied by chefs who are keen to ensure that our food is both nurturing and in full alignment with the light and healing energies we are calling in for ourselves.
NOTE: if you have special dietary needs beyond preferences and allergies—for example, you have an actual health condition such as celiac disease, do NOT register until you have emailed us and we can confirm that we are able to support your needs in full measure.

“I just wanted to share that I absolutely loved this retreat.
The smaller group setting and longer time really allowed me the time
needed to rest and become refreshed. In addition, the relationships
I made with the lovely ladies has lasted through these last few years.”
~ Angela McCutcheon
With our gentle hearted teachers offering classes to support and inspire you, be ready for exploration into spirit as well as fun in a range of making: stitching, knitting, writing, as well as some mixed media play. The pace of the gathering is all about easy, nurturing energies that will allow us to let go and sink into our own individual ways of creative expression.
“Into the Mystic gave me an opportunity
to create new ways to envision my life.”
— Artemis O’Connor
As with all Squam gatherings, each person will be encouraged to listen to their heart and follow their own drummer to create the experience they most want and need. However, if there were a way to describe what will be true for us all, it could be said that our time together we will be grounded in:
- process versus productivity
- creativity as a central way of being in the world
- sharing stories and laughter
- finding more ease, more joy and more light in our hearts.
With this as our intention, we can expect to return home feeling more deeply aligned with our core self which allows us to provide greater service to our families and communities as we can feel refreshed with renewed clarity, vision and vitality.

HOUSING OPTIONS
Clean and simple, with a traditional New England style, each homestead has a fully equipped kitchen and extensive library, plus lots of nooks and cushy window seats to settle into for knitting, stitching, reading, and daydreaming.

*Please note that these buildings are built many years ago and as such can be quirky. Below is what the Landmark Trust shares to help ensure this setting is aligned with your expectations.
“Our buildings were made to the standards of earlier ages. Consequently, you may encounter features that reflect their particular characteristics, but which deserve due care and attention, particularly for the young, elderly, less mobile or visually impaired. Examples of these are steps worn with age or with narrow treads, uneven surfaces, low doors, ceilings and beams, unexpected drops and changes of level, and (by modern standards) low or absent lighting. In all cases, we have sought to make a sensible compromise between due regard for safety and the careful retention of the character of each building, which makes it an interesting place to stay. Even familiar things, for example; polished floors, and stairs, hot water temperature, hot gas log stoves, and such can differ from home and so surprise the unwary, particularly the very young.”

FAQ
Click to view detailsMay I bring a guest who is not taking classes?
It may be possible. Please email us to discuss further.
What about meals? I have food allergies/ I am vegetarian/ vegan.
Meals are catered and will be offered buffet-style. We are prepared to cater to various food preferences such as gluten-free or dairy-free. However, as noted above, if you have special dietary needs beyond preferences and allergies—for example, you have an actual health condition such as celiac disease, do NOT register until you have emailed us and we can confirm that we are able to support your needs in full measure.
Are there any scholarships available?
Unfortunately, we do not have the funding to provide scholarships or work/study programs. Some Squammies have had success with a number of different approaches: a few put up contests at their blogs, several teachers asked their schools to pay the tuition as part of their continuing education (we provide certificates). Go to the message board for additional ideas. The collective energy there is amazing and you will likely find some genuine help and support.
What’s the weather like? What clothes should I bring?
Early May is an especially gorgeous season in southwestern Vermont.
At this time of year, expect early New England Spring and 70 F degrees on average. However, be prepared for all weather conditions, as temperatures can fluctuate between very warm in the daytime and chilly at night—dropping as low as 40-50 F.
What other things should I bring?
Whatever will make you feel comfortable! The houses are well appointed with linens, towels and a full kitchen, but you’ll want all your own toiletries. Bring comfortable footwear, and a headlamp is always useful for navigating at night.
May I attend just one day, one workshop or an evening event?
We are not able to offer single day options at this time.
What contact information should I leave for my family?
We will send this information to you prior to the retreat.
