It’s all like a dream. Everything is ecstasy, inside. We just don’t know it because of our thinking-minds. But in our true blissful essence of mind is known that everything is alright forever and forever and forever.
Close your eyes, let your hands and nerve-ends drop, stop breathing for 3 seconds, listen to the silence inside the illusion of the world, and you will remember the lesson you forgot, which was taught in immense milky way soft cloud innumerable worlds long ago and not even at all. It is all one vast awakened thing.
I call it the golden eternity. It is perfect. We were never really born, we will never really die. It has nothing to do with the imaginary idea of a personal self, other selves, many selves everywhere: Self is only an idea, a mortal idea. That which passes into everything is one thing.
:: from a letter Jack Kerouac wrote to his first wife, Edie in 1957 ::
The other day I was in a bakery and in the span of about 18 minutes, I witnessed one man leave his wallet on the counter, a woman walk out the door with her packages sitting under the table and when I was commenting on it to the barista she shrugged and gestured to a stack of hats and gloves that were piled on a shelf, waiting to be remembered.
It’s a time of year when we can lose our heads, it seems. We can get so caught up in some kind of frenzy that we lose sight of the whole purpose of this quiet holiday — to slow down and breathe.
There is so much beauty all around us — so many good smells: the fresh pine of douglas fir– ginger, cinnamon, and sugar baking — so many good sights: lights in the windows, candles burning, a woman in a red hat waiting for her bus with the deepest smile on her face which told me she was thinking about something wonderful.
It’s a time when the natural energy goes inward so that we can reconnect with the peace, light and ease that is always within.
This week, as always but more than ever, I wish for you the deepest relief from the stresses and challenges of your daily life.
I wish for you a time to sink into the pleasures that light your spirit the most.
I wish for you time to remember.
see you in the New Year!
