Sweet Bear
Taught by:
Cinthia ValletOffered:
Sunday, September 13
Monday, September 14
(FULL / CLOSED)
Experience level: Intermediate knitter (or a motivated beginner who knows how to knit, purl, increase, decrease and has previously knit in very small circumference, small as a thumb for example)
Is there anything more enchanting than stitching your own knit animal? Maybe you have always wanted to but have put it off thinking it might be too difficult. Well then, today’s your day.
In this workshop, you will be learning directly from Cinthia how to make your very own bear, from start to finish. The class follows her original method which has reinvigorated the experience of knitting soft animals, with a fully seamless, flowing process.
It is a simple pattern but there are tricks to the trade. Having the designer who created the design right there to walk you through all the steps is a harbinger of success. And in case you are wondering, your bear will not be like anyone else’s bear as Cinthia will help you make choices on how to finish the face (eyes, nose, mouth) so that the personality is just as you want it to be.
This is the most magical step, when you meet your character for the first time.
Key in all of this is that you are the one making the choices: what colors of wool you are using, what kind of wool and thus what needle size, and consequently the finished size of your animal — yes, you can scale it up— so that it is truly one-of-a-kind. Your very own sweet bear.
Obviously, an important issue before starting is to create the right fabric to be the skin of your bear; we’re talking about gauge. Not in terms of dimensions, rather in terms of density, and, again, we have got you covered. Before class, Cinthia will be in contact to help you make yarn + needle choices so that you can knit up a swatch to ensure you have exactly what you need for your bear.
This workshop is all about the play and it may even launch you into knitting your own stuffed menagerie because we haven’t even talked about the adorable clothes, hats and shoes you might make to put on your darling bear.
Best of all, Cinthia is bringing Mouche and his friends to class so you can see/meet them all in person.
