Chasing the Light

Taught by:

Amy Gretchen

Offered:

Thursday May 19
Friday May 20
Saturday May 21

Experience level: All Levels

Our life is made up of moments; moments that make us laugh, moments that bring us to tears, moments we’re proud of, moments we want to share, moments we never want to forget. By taking a photograph, we are preserving one of those moments and telling a story that would otherwise quickly fade or go unnoticed.

What story do you want to tell? What details of your life do you want to remember?

As you begin to capture photos of your everyday, you will begin to see your beautiful life unfolding before you. By quietly observing and being present in the ordinary moments with your camera, you will begin to notice more of your life than you ever have before. You will find the beauty in the routine and the meaning in the mundane. Big events are fun to shoot and reflect upon, but the details that make up the everyday can be some of the most meaningful, and most important to capture.

Over the course of this class, we will explore the elements of composition and light using our beautiful surroundings as our guide. Through a series of prompts and exercises, we will get out of our heads and shoot from the heart. Along the way, we will learn how to translate what we see into a photograph that more fully conveys the feeling we want to express and the stories we want to tell.

PLEASE NOTE: Although you will surely learn more ways to use your camera over the course of the day, this is not a technical class about how to use your camera. Rather, we will be focused on how to shape the shot and take photographs that thrill you and best express your vision, your intention.
