FALL2024 Sweater Dreams

Sweater Dreams

Taught by:

Paula Pereira

Thursday, September 5th

Friday, September 6th

Experience level: adventurous beginner to advanced

In this class, you will be creating your own texture to knit the sweater of your dreams. It just doesn’t get any better than this. All the details dialed in to your exact needs and preferences.

Plus? It’s gonna be super fun.

In the morning, Paula will lead you through an exploration of different ways to create texture and combine color. This is playing with yarn at its best.

Using a stitch dictionary and a rich resource of materials, we will be swatching, planning and creating the most yummy texture for a top-down, circle yoke sweater.

In the afternoon, we will take our chosen swatch and Paula will guide us through the steps to align it with the sweater pattern of our choice.

Structure and technique will be covered including the 3D underarm mods that allow for smooth fit and short rows that deliver perfect results.

There’ll be a bit of math, but made so easy!

When you leave the class, you will have the swatch, the pattern and everything you need to now knit the sweater of your dreams that will be uniquely yours.

This class is ideal for advanced knitters but adventurous beginners are also most welcome as Paula will tailor your pattern to your favorite stitches. However, it is advised that you have some experience with short rows.

We are so honored that PURL SOHO is sponsoring this class and will be offering a free skein of their gorgeous yarn to each student who chooses to purchase their sweater’s yarn from Purl.

Of course, you are more than welcome to bring your own yarn.
In particular, students need to bring with them:

  • small amounts of yarn (fingering to worsted)
  • waste yarn in a contrasting color
  • circular needles in suitable sizes for the chosen yarns with lengths 16″ and 24″ / 40 and 60 cm
  • tapestry needle
  • stitch markers with one different from the others
  • small ruler
  • measuring tape
  • paper and pencil for notes
  • a few markers in the shades of your chosen yarn
