Margaret Holzmann is a textile artist, designer, author, and teacher who loves using
knitting as a canvas for exploring color, geometry, and visual ideas.
After a career as a systems and software engineer at AT&T Bell Laboratories and NASA’s Jet Propulsion
Laboratory, she returned to her first love, fiber arts, and discovered that the analytical
and creative sides of her brain work surprisingly well together.
Margaret designs geometric and iconic knitted textiles, developing her own construction
techniques and ways of translating visual ideas into knitted fabric. The author of
five books of knitting patterns and designs, Margaret teaches nationally—helping knitters move
beyond simply following patterns to understand how and why knitted structures work; she especially enjoys helping people develop the confidence and skills to turn their own creative ideas into something tangible.
She lives in California with her husband and is happiest when she is designing, knitting,
and exploring other forms of fiber arts.
