The Wildflower Kerchief
Taught by:
Amy ChristoffersOffered:
Sunday, September 13
(FULL / CLOSED)
Experience level: Basic knitting experience, knitting, purling, casting on and binding off.

There are few of us who have not seen (and been smitten with) the lovely Pressed Flower Pattern that Amy Christoffers has created. However, what is new and super fun about this workshop is that we will be taking this fabulous technique and using it to explore the endless color and texture variations you can create.
The motif is pretty simple, just two yarns, knitting and purling, slipping stitches to create the mosaic motif. But— don’t be fooled. The real magic in this pattern comes when you start playing with different yarns, maybe mixing up the motif as well as changing the repeat here and there.

In this class we will go over
- the mosaic knitting method
- reading a mosaic chart
- increasing and decreasing in pattern.
We will also be doing a deep dive into yarn colors, textures and weights. There will be quite a lot of swatching and then, when you have found the perfect balance of color + pattern that makes your heart sing, you will cast on a Squam special: the stash-busting, choose-your-own-adventure sampler version of the Pressed Flowers Kerchief: The Wildflower Kerchief/Shawl* knit side to side with an allover pressed flowers motif. (Multiple CC yarns will be used in a combination of stripes and some beginner friendly intarsia).
*this pattern is not publicly available; Amy has created if for you expressly for this workshop

Students will bring a collection of yarns from their stash and a selection of knitting needles for swatching different combinations with. The project will require a Main Color + an assortment of contrast colored yarns. The exact gauge isn’t critical and a selection of different weights and textures in encouraged. Stash busting for the win!
