the tax man

As I walked these dunes this morning...I had so much I wanted to tell you
about the shape of wind...
and ways to see the invisible at work on your body and spirit.
Then I had an appointment with my Accountant (a gorgeous, yogi soul using her gifts to help small businesses)....
...and all my poetry left my body as I moved into left brain mode to pay the tax-man. Which, by the way, I am doing with GRATITUDE this year. How lucky am I to live in this country where I can freely walk the gorgeous dunes that are literally my front yard (well, literally they are a State Park, but I walk out my yard and I am in them). This park is funded in part by the taxes I pay. And I am so grateful everyday to wake up and see how the dunes have changed overnight and roam within their peaks and folds in the morning and evenings.
This is a shift for me, as I typically grumble about all manner of things when taxes come due. But not this year...this year is a new story.
Is there something in your life that your taxes pay for that makes your life easier, or more beautiful? Tell me...

What a nice way to look at things. Hmmm, I'd have to say my local library. I use it quite a bit. Also, I am a Tulsa native (I live just outside of it now) and our downtown is seeing tons of renovations and improvements through our tax money. More arts, park improvements and urban living development. The City of Tulsa in recent years renovated an old waterworks building into an arts education center which I plan to eventually take some classes from.
I second the library. The state of Rhode Island is in poor, poor financial shape, but thank goodness we still have an excellent library system. The whole state is linked, and now it's linked with the colleges too, so you can request a book and they'll just deliver it from any other library (including colleges and universities) to whatever branch you say. And then you can return it at any branch too. My three children and I currently have 51 books out between us.
I also willingly pay the fee for state beach parking passes (which doubled last year) because I am so grateful this state *has* such beautiful beaches and natural areas.
I agree with the library as well. I just adore the library and there are so many incredible resources there. It is like my second home.
I love how you are looking at tax time. So wonderful. xo
I had to come to the same shift about my student loans. I have a great education because I have student loans and I wouldn't have been able to get where I am without my education. So, every month when I pay my student loans, I mentally list some of the things my education has given me (great job, amazing coworkers, the chance to travel, a way to make the world better) and I am more than happy to send that money on it's way.
I second and third, parks and libraries..two of my favorites.
