Teacher Feature: Kerry Lemon

It should come as no surprise that Kerry Lemon's classes sold out immediately at our Spring gathering.  Her work exudes such open-hearted spirit and beauty I can't imagine who wouldn't jump at the chance to learn from her.

For me, it's all I can do to keep from jumping into her suitcase!

I mean, have you been following her trip to Paris?  Sigh.

What a life she has created for herself!  I'm honestly a little bit amazed that she has us on her schedule and must admit that a little song runs in my head from that Sesame Street game when I think, which of these does not belong:  London, Paris, Tokyo, Squam Lake? . . .

But she IS coming and from what I can tell, she is most excited to join you there-- so, let's get to know her a bit better, shall we?

I know that she does extraordinary window displays for every major department store in London and Paris and has a solo show opening in Tokyo in March . . I am also besotted with her illustrative work that you can find in magazines, books, newspapers-- okay, pretty much everywhere!--

but what we really want to know is what's her favorite snack, right?

What gets you through rough winter days?

Lots of cups of tea, BBC Radio 4 and painting with beautiful colours!

Five pets (and their names) you would love to have in your life.

We already have two very naughty cats called Champ and Chief but I’d love more pets. So, after far too much deliberation here are the new prospective members of our family:

1. A hairless cat called Professor Wrinkles

2. A rabbit called Peter (I’m in love with Beatrix Potter!)

3. A rhino called Ralph (rhinos are my favourite animal - my partner recently designed and 3D printed me a glorious silver rhino ring!)

4 & 5. Two lovebirds called Joan and Terry (after my partner’s amazing grandparents - you have never met two people more in love)

What's a scent that brings you back to childhood?

My mum’s perfume YSL Rive Gauche.

Something wacky your family would do together growing up?

I am very lucky to have two fantastic sisters who are my best friends. EVERY year when we were kids we would spend the Christmas holidays creating a show. This would be practiced in complete secrecy and performed to our long suffering relatives on Christmas day. How embarrassing - you are now all sworn to secrecy!

Best music for cozy nights in?

Imogen Heap, Lisa Hannigan, Laura Marling

Favorite snack to keep you warm this winter?

Easy - marmite on crumpets and a giant cup of tea!

Thank you Kerry!  And um, if you ever need help carrying your luggage to all those wonderful places, just let me know . .

bisous, e

Oh Elizabeth, where do you find such incredibly talented people? How lucky are we to soon be learning from these beautiful souls! I LOVE reading about the artists...and racing to iTunes to listen to their favorite music I have never heard of! With every post, I learn something new...thank you for such a bright start to my day!

I can only say that I am thoroughly delighted that I am able to take this class w Kerry. It was my first choice upon seeing the jam packed schedule of novel classes that Elizabeth offered to us this Spring. The words - 'level of experience - ALL', on the class description led me to move outside of my comfort level and jump in. I am sure this is a once in a lifetime opportunity to draw with Kerry and how lucky I am that she did include Squam on her journey!

I am beyond thrilled to be in Kerry's class! She had me at "clarify your personal drawing language", especially since I have very little experience drawing, and I think that approach will help me get over the "I'm not an artist because I don't draw like " syndrome.
