studio tour :: gleena ceramics

Like so many Providence friendships, Asya and Elizabeth met at the farmer's market only to discover they lived less than a block away from each other.

It is a small, small world here in little ole' Rhode Island.  Lucky for us, what started at the farmer's market resulted in a beautiful collaboration between Squam and Asya's ceramics line, gleena: the beautiful cups and tumblers that graced our storefront* last month were a result of Asya's handiwork and Elizabeth's vision.

When it came time for me to learn how to shoot video (a goal of mine for the new year), and I needed a subject, I knew that I wanted to feature Asya.  Not only does she have a beautiful story, but her studio, housed in an old mill building in Pawtucket, is the stuff that artsy dreams are made of.  She is at once warm and inviting, as well as extremely talented and meticulous in her approach to ceramics, striving for uniqueness and perfection with every piece.

Thanks to my wonderful teacher Tory, I was able capture Asya's story and I am so excited to share it with you.

*As you can see Asya is busy making the pieces for you! We'll begin shipping them next week and they should all be in hand by the end of February.

Lovely video -- I've always wondered how porcelain was made as opposed to objects thrown on a wheel. Asya makes gorgeous things!

Nicely done Christine.

Thank you so much for all of your encouraging comments! I am a little nervous, as my next attempt at video will be without the aid of my amazing teacher, Tory...we'll see what happens!

Wish me luck!
