SquamItalia!
Thank you for your interest, our SquamItalia! retreat is now closed.
For this, our first ever squam abroad, we looked far and wide for the most perfect, unspolied and relatively undiscovered regions and boy did we ever find a gem: Abruzzo!
We will be staying in a restored villa in a beautiful medieval village close to the Adriatic-- a section of Italy that is one of the most sparsely populated regions on the peninsula. Due to its geography, much of Abruzzo remains as it was in medieval times which allows visitors a glance into the past and to see a part of the world as it was hundreds of years ago. Italy seems keen to keep it that way as fully one third of this region is designated as national or regional parkland. From the villa you will be able to see both the snow-capped Grand Sasso mountain range and the sparkling blue of the Adriatic. Kinda cool.
Good thing that in addition to the painting and knitting classes, we will have sketchbook journaling and two photography workshops that will have you out and about in this vibrant and picturesque region where it has been said there are as many castles as there are sheep. Our hope is to take in some of the village life, explore the local monastery and Roman ruins. All at a leisurely pace that allows for long walks, relaxed dinners and time to savor this once-in-a-lifetime experience.
