SquamItalia!
Shetland Lace Explored
Taught by: Gudrun JohnstonKit Fee: $0
This class will introduce you to some of the traditional techniques used in Shetland Lace knitting. Skills covered will include working a provisional or waste wool cast on, lace motifs worked on both sides of the knitting, how to work a knitted on edging, lifelines and how to fix those pesky mistakes!
Gudrun will also share some of the fascinating history of the Shetland Lace tradition and display some lovely Shetland images.
Students will create a stole sampler in class and will leave with a copy of a brand new pattern for a Shetland inspired stole from Gudrun. This design, which will be seen for the first time at Squam, will give students the opportunity to practice all of the new skills they’ve just learned!
Level: Advanced Beginner/Intermediate. Some experience knitting simple lace patterns required.
