Experience level: All Levels

Have you ever stared out of an airplane window and marveled at how the land looked a quilt? From the patchwork of farm divisions to the meandering threads of rivers and roads to the colorful patterns of land and sea. Working in textiles is something that — physically and metaphorically — I’ve always been wrapped up in, warmed by, and felt the weight of.

Fabric is rich with all the memories that come with it.

It’s something we can all connect with. This is why I paste fabric into my paintings. I am interested in finding metaphorical connections between fabric and subject matter.

In this class, we’ll use the landscape as our jumping off place for a somersault into mixed media collage using fabric and paint.

You may choose to work from the beautiful surroundings of the Rockywold-Deephaven Camps or work from a photo or memory of a favorite landscape.

I will guide you through process and play to envision your landscape. This process can be embraced by all skill levels and even the faint of painting. We will cut, arrange, and re-arrange our fabric, add intuition, and experimentation to find our sacred place.

Students are encouraged to bring favorite scraps of fabric to personalize your work.
