Oh, how-oh-how could I possibly share about Squam succinctly, with any brevity at all? I think it was after my first Squam that I had to stop blogging for along time ~ because there was just too much goodness too share & a total inability on my part to do any of it justice.

I keep trying to explain what’s happened & I’m all tied up again.

My first Squam...
“I arrived at Squam at 2:30 am before it all began & was assured that no one else was there.  It was pitch black, the driver was lost & nervous, & I had a sudden intense bear phobia.  I was being as loud as possible, yelling to the driver & slamming doors before I realized Merr, Eileen & Yvette were in my cabin. They were sleeping before I got there & needless to say, I was mortified that I had woken them, but they insist they were waiting for me.  Well, I'll never know.”  Of course they are now some of my very best friends.

3 Squams Later...

How can I possibly break down the synchronicity of those woods, where every person knows that we are being brave, that we are trying new mediums, that we are exploring something juicy because we’re exploring visionary self-care?  So we meet our best friends, soul sisters, Lifetime Playmates.

What words can express the honor of meeting the people you’re karmically supposed to co-create & collaborate with in this life?  And then watching what unfolds in their lives out of that?  Squam lives for me every single day as I talk to my Squammie Moon Storm Clan Sisters - like Jen Lee, Maya Donenfeld, Thea Coughlin, Eileen Nishi, Merrilee Kennedy, Pixie Campbell, Tifanie Chaney about what they’re building, launching, forwarding aspiring towards.  Their books, programs, ecourses, businesses, shops.

And where else does one eat, sleep & hike with so many brilliantly creative, spiritually grounded, loving + ambitious moms?  Moms of children, or moms who’ve birthed projects, art, books, + initiatives. I haven’t found anywhere else.

How do I explain that I used to work with mostly activist & male executives, but now I am surrounded by sparkly, dazzling women 24/7 & it’s all because of Squam?  That I don’t work with men at all now, that I love love love it & it’s led me to speaking about women, goodness, truth & beauty on the TED stage?

How can I say that I grew up amongst healers & coaches & have been lucky enough to take so so many freaking transformational courses, but I’d never seen so much transformation happen so quickly as it did in the space of Pixie Campbell’s Medicine Shawl class?  And that she offered no coaching or advice, just trusted the women, drummed, held space & invited their wisdom?

Or how you (Elizabeth) invited me on a path which led to Pixie & she’s turned out to be a long-last many lifetimes fairy godsister?  How she’s turned all these pieces into her SouLodge, transforming hundreds of women’s lives by trusting them to get wild, to dial in?  And what an honor it’s been to witness + hold space for that?

How do I say that you took my love affair with woods + water & sent it completely over the top by adding an apron party with cameras, cooking, pregnant bellies & over-full mamas.  With a brilliant food stylist (Bea has more than a touch of star quality) showing us exactly how she makes her perfect pictures & a brilliant photographer (Thea Coughlin) shadowing her every move, asking her just the questions I didn't know to ask.  After making us cry with her beautiful story about why she started creating, of course.   Because women like to cry together & we also like watching French women talk about food & style while we cook.  At least, this group did.

And that this year I adopted the crazy-tough-loving-insatiably creative food stylist Helene Dujardin as my very own.  Where else do you get to adopt a world class food stylist that’s mastered every style out there, with stacks + stacks of magazines & cookbooks under her belt?

Now I’m Californian, so we have our share of retreats, community, art, transformation & natural beauty.  AND, nothing comes close ~ & I will boldly say can ever come close~ to duplicating the mix of intimately sweet creative superstars that come to Squam.  I’m talking about the teachers.  The students.  The Staff.  And I’m also talking about the sacred land, which was built up to hold space for creativity, women’s work, families, sisterhood.  It’s distinct, & getting ourselves there is a fabulous response to the gift of life.  Let’s just say my husband is happy that I’m happy.  And my children are happy that I’m happy.  And that I’m happy that they’re happy.  Did I leave any magic out?  Lots.
