There was something tugging inside of me when I first heard about the Squam Art Workshops. I knew on some level, I had to go.

I had spoken with Elizabeth in the months prior to coming, and I was really struck with the integrity and the deep care she carried in her vision for Squam. She literally put love into every little detail. I could tell that this was going to be different from any workshop I had ever been to.

So in the fall of 2008, I packed up my car and drove from Chicago to this magical place in the woods nestled on beautiful Squam Lake.  I never imagined that this one trip would have such a significant and lasting impact upon my life, and I had no idea how this vision of Elizabeth's would turn into a dream come true for me.

The gifts I have received from making this journey continue to come. I have made incredible friendships. I have found a place where I can refuel for the year ahead. I get to witness and take part in a creative process that can truly change lives. I have made a career change and started my own business. There are so many layers to my heartfelt experiences at Squam, enough to write a book or a hundred songs.

The the bottom line is this:
I know that it is a requirement of my soul  to take the time for creativity, community and connection. I know I must take breaks away from the static of this world to surround myself with nature, inspiration, and encouragement. And finally, I need big doses of both rest and play to keep my heart satisfied.

This is why I go to Squam.
And why I will continue to return year, after year, after year...
