How do I get to Squam by the Sea?

From the Norfolk Airport: Follow signs from airport to I-64 East. Take I-64 East to exit 291B, merge onto I-464 S/VA-168 S. Continue on 168 S and go through the toll ($2). Continue and enter North Carolina. RT 168 S becomes Route 158. Travel over the bridge from the mainland to the Outer Banks. Once over the bridge Route 158 uses a MP system (small green signs on the right side) to help guide you. Travel to approximately MP 10 to come to Nags Head. We'll be sending you more specific directions to our houses nearer to October. Also check out google maps.

From Raleigh and points West and South take Route 64 East over three bridges and all the way into Nags Head. Route 64 becomes Route 158 in Nags Head. Route 158 uses a milepost system (small green signs on the right side) to help guide you. You will travel to approximately MP 10 and we'll be sending you more specific directions to our houses nearer to October.

What airports are near Squam by the Sea?

The nearest airport is Norfolk, VA. It is a lovely little international airport which makes traveling a breeze. It's about 1hr 45 mins to Nags Head from there. Newport News, VA Airport is an additional 45 minutes away but sometimes you can get a better fare that would make the time worthwhile.

What should I bring to Squam by the Sea?

Be prepared to dress in layers. It can be anywhere from 45-90 degrees depending on the weather patterns, so it is advisable to check the weather before you come. The nights will be cooler and for daytime you could need anything from a bathing suit to ugg boots. Oh, and please bring rain gear (for good luck). Other helpful items for your comfort are flashlight, alarm clock, earplugs, hat, phone charger, snacks, and a backpack or carryall for your supplies.

What if I want to ship my art supplies ahead?

You are welcome to ship your materials ahead so you can travel more easily. Please follow the instructions below: Address your box clearly to YOU, c/o Michelle Smith, 309 W. Soundside Rd, Nags Head, NC 27959. We prefer you ship by UPS or FedEX (although USPS is available). Please do not ship your materials more than three weeks before your session begins. Our storage space is limited! To ship things home again you must repack your box. We will not have any shipping materials for you, so put them in the box you ship out. All boxes to be shipped must be left packed and ready to go. Once the box is in the mail we will send you a bill by email.

What about meals? I have food allergies/ I am a vegetarian/vegan.

We plan to have healthy, primarily vegetarian meals for you. Please contact us with specific concerns as we will make every effort to accommodate special dietary needs.

May I arrive a day or two early?
