Episode 17 :: Alisha Sommer

“If I were to summarize myself in a list of textures it would read like this: hand-scraped wood, natural linen, cotton, velvet, leather, and lace.”

It’s been so long since I first began following Alisha on facebook and Instagram I am not sure how I found her, but I know what drew me in: her words and images.

Alisha’s photographs are quiet, evocative, brimming with the feeling or emotion she has just captured in her lens, but don’t lose sight that she is, at heart, a writer whose words flow like poetry and yet feel like a warm conversation between friends. What I didn’t know until we chatted (above) for Morning on the Dock was the sound of her voice– wow, if ever there were an American Idol for people who should have their own radio show, my vote is for Alisha!

If you don’t follow Alisha, below is a glimpse of how she shares a part of her world, revealing so much in the simplest of words.

“When I first got married, I was all Bertolli and frozen Texas Toast. But then the kids came along and we were totally broke and I began to learn to cook from scratch out of need. It turns out that most food tastes better that way. Now when I cook, it’s sacred time for me. An exercise in #slowliving. Kids are kicked out of the kitchen, music is on, a glass of wine is poured, and I get a few moments to explore the inner workings of my mind.”
